In the mid or late 18th century the street frontage timber framing at ground level was removed to allow underbuilding, that is, the front wall to be rebuilt in brick to line up with the front wall of the upper parts of the building. No doubt that was when the current sash (Georgian style) windows were inserted instead of the original 17th century ones at both ground and first floor levels.
The current pair of doorcases are thought to be early 19th century, and it seems likely that they were inserted when the building became two separate properties. Presumably this is also when the room layout inside the original single building (Nos, 20 and 22 now), was altered.
If the original building did have dormer or gable windows, these may have been removed during the 19th century or later.
In the late 19th century it is likely that the current 'Victorian' shop window was inserted at ground floor level.
